Please Recycle, Upcycle and Ride Your Bicycle.

We believe that recycling is one of the single-most important things an individual can take responsibility for when it comes to reducing your own carbon footprint.
At wonky coffee we wanted to ensure that none of our products end up in landfill, so, we carefully select and source materials that are 100% recyclable or compostable. Let’s break down all our products, discuss the materials and show how to recycle them.

Wonky Pods

We rescue Nespresso Compatible Capsules that are either 100% aluminium, or made out of a biodegradable or compostable material. We have never rescued plastic coffee pods and we never will.

Recycling your aluminium coffee pods at home is super easy! All the coffee pods that we rescue are infinitely recyclable. If you don’t have one already, the Dualit EcoPress makes it double easy, which you can purchase here.

Here's how to use the EcoPress:

1

Place the used wonky pod foil side down over the hole on the lid

2

Place the pusher on top of the wonky pod and apply downward pressure

3

Remove the capsule and recycle the aluminium capsule and the ground coffee following your councils guidelines

Spent Coffee Ground

There are plenty of uses for your spent coffee grounds:

1

Simply chuck the used coffee into your compost heap at home and your spent coffee grounds should compost in a couple of months depending on the condition of your heap. Or simple throw the spent coffee into your councils food waste bin!

2

Got some hungry plants? Word on the street is that spent coffee ground is great for your house plants and the garden plants. It adds an organic material to the soil, which improves drainage, water retention, and aeration in the soil.

We teamed up with the amazing celebrity makeup artist Olivia Davey on a face and body scrub collab! See more here.

Coffee Beans & Ground Coffee

It is a difficult balance to strike when choosing the type of material to use for our bags of beans and ground coffee as we also have to consider what material is going to protect the coffee. Coffee is an incredibly sensitive product and when it meets with oxygen it oxidises, sort of like when you bite into an apple and the inside goes a brown colour.

So, we chose to use a 100% recyclable material. This material can be recycled in several ways, for a number of districts in the UK you can recycle them with your regular household recycling. Or, if your local authority doesn’t recycle them, you can recycle them at your local supermarket. You can check here.

To recycle cardboard, you need to remove all plastic tape, otherwise it will get rejected at the recycling plant.

With our delivery boxes, we have removed all the plastic
tape and moved over to a high quality 100% recyclable kraft paper tape. Not only does it look better, but it is also better for the environment.
