the odd journey

Lockdown happened

Lockdown hit and like many we dreamt of projects we could do when we were free again and the idea of roasting coffee was always something we flirted with.

We started exploring the idea a bit more seriously, and after speaking with already established roasters we stumbled upon this thing called 'surplus coffee'.

We don’t actually rescue from coffee skips...we prevent this from ever happening.

It all started with a pallet of dented pods

A coffee roaster donated a pallet of dented coffee pods to our little flat. Our living room smelt fantastic and was covered in coffee as we sorted through the pods to find the best working ones. - but then we had to actually sell them

We put a local ad on Facebook and started packing the pods into boxes and before we knew it we were delivering the pods on our push bike like 1920 midwives.

From dented pods to surplus bean & ground coffee

We quickly found surplus was far greater and complex than we first expected, and levelled up operations from the flat to Laurence's nans converted garage, to a proper fulfilment and sorting centre.

Forward thinking coffee roasters were also looking to do more, and now we work in collaboration with some of the best coffee roasters in the game.
